Conceptual design study for a dedicated low-energy diagnostics line at Linac3 / Bellodi, Giulia (CERN) ; Bodart, Dominique (CERN) ; Cravero, Jean-Marc (CERN) ; Etxebarria Erdoiza, Jone (CIEMAT - Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas Medioambientales y Tec. (ES)) ; Kuchler, Detlef (CERN) ; Mahner, Edgar (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Scrivens, Richard (CERN) ; Valerio Lizarraga, Cristhian Alfonso (Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa (MX))
A low-energy diagnostics upgrade of Linac3 has been studied in the last couple of years to allow a more precise characterization of the beam properties at extraction from the source, currently impeded by a complete lack of measuring devices in the first ~6 m of the accelerator layout. [...]

Comparison of Two Detector Magnetic Systems for the Future Circular Hadron-Hadron Collider / Klyukhin, Vyacheslav (SINP, Moscow ; CERN) ; Ball, Austin (CERN) ; Berriaud, Christophe Paul (IRFU, Saclay) ; Curé, Benoit (CERN) ; Dudarev, Alexey (CERN) ; Gaddi, Andrea (CERN) ; Gerwig, Hubert (CERN) ; Hervé, Alain (Wisconsin U., Madison) ; Mentink, Matthias (CERN) ; Riegler, Werner (CERN) et al.
This work describes a detailed study of two possible options for the magnetic system of a Future Circular hadron-hadron Collider detector. The conceptual design study of a Future Circular hadron-hadron Collider (FCC-hh) to be constructed at CERN with a center-of-mass energy of the order of 100 TeV requires superconducting magnetic systems with a central magnetic flux density of an order of 4 T for the experimental detectors. The developed concept of the FCC-hh detector involves the use of an iron-free magnetic system consisting of three superconducting solenoids. [...]

A New Wall Current Transformer for Accurate Beam Intensity Measurements in the Large Hadron Collider / Krupa, Michal (CERN) ; Gasior, Marek (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) stores two high-energy counter-rotating particle beams consisting of multiple bunches of a nanosecond length. Precise knowledge of the number of particles within each bunch, known as the bunch intensity, is crucial for physicists and accelerator operators. [...]

Beam merging assisted by a bent crystal / Scandale, W (Imperial Coll., London ; INFN, Rome) ; Cerutti, F (CERN) ; Esposito, L S (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Losito, R (CERN) ; Smirnov, G I (CERN) ; Giribono, A (Frascati) ; Bauce, M (INFN, Rome) ; Collamati, F (INFN, Rome) ; Valente, P (INFN, Rome) et al.
Bunch merging is a well-established technique to increase the intensity of synchrotrons and the luminosity of circular colliders. We suggest to exploit a combination of channeling, volume reflection and amorphous interactions in a bent crystal for beam merging in a transfer line. [...]

How to overcome the demagnetization of superconducting Halbach arrays? / Houbart, M (Liege U.) ; Fagnard, J-F (Liege U.) ; Dular, J (CERN) ; Dennis, A R (Cambridge U.) ; Namburi, D K (Glasgow U.) ; Durrell, J H (Cambridge U.) ; Geuzaine, C (Liege U.) ; Vanderheyden, B (Liege U.) ; Vanderbemden, P (Liege U.)
Assembling trapped-field superconducting magnets with mutually orthogonal magnetizations directions in a Halbach array configuration offers the prospect of generating both high fields and large field gradients. A major issue when assembling bulk superconductors in a Halbach array, however, consists in the alteration of the initial current density distribution during the assembly process. [...]

Uniform onset of the long proton bunch self-modulation seeded by an electron bunch in an overdense plasma / Moon, K (UNIST, Ulsan) ; Yoon, E S (UNIST, Ulsan) ; Chung, M (UNIST, Ulsan) ; Muggli, P (CERN) ; Moreira, M (Lisbon, IST) ; Baistrukov, M A (Novosibirsk State U.)
The phase, growth rate, and onset of long proton bunch self-modulation in plasma can be controlled by a preceding short charged particle bunch. In this paper, by analyzing the growth rates of the self-modulation obtained from particle-in-cell simulation results, we identify two modes of self-modulation, namely noise-seeded and externally seeded self-modulations, and investigate their onset timings.
