Chromaticity Measurement Using Beam Transfer Function in High Energy Synchrotrons / Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Furuseth, Sondre (CERN) ; Vicentini, Giulio (CERN) Control of chromaticity is often critical to mitigate collective instabilities in high energy synchrotrons, yet classical measurement methods are of limited use during high intensity operation. We explore the possibility to extract this information from beam transfer function measurements, with the development of a theoretical background that includes the impact of wakefields and by analysis of multi-particle tracking simulations. HL-LHC Beam Dynamics with Hollow Electron Lenses / Hermes, Pascal (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Stancari, Giulio (Fermilab) Each of the two proton beams in the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) will carry a total energy of 700 MJ. One concern for machine protection is the energy stored in the transverse beam halo, estimated to potentially reach up to 5% of the total stored energy. First Experience of Crystal Collimators During LHC Special Runs and Plans for the Future / D'Andrea, Marco (CERN ; U. Padua (main)) ; Avati, Valentina (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Deile, Mario (CERN) ; Di Castro, Mario (CERN) ; Dziedzic, Bartosz (Cracow, INP) ; Garcia Morales, Hector (CERN ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Gavrikov, Yury (St. Petersburg, INP ; CERN) ; Hiller, Karlheinz (DESY, Zeuthen) et al. Bent crystals can deflect charged particles by trapping them within the potential well generated by neighboring crystalline planes and forcing them to follow the curvature of the crystal itself. This property has been extensively studied over the past decade at the CERN accelerator complex, as well as in other laboratories, for a variety of applications, ranging from beam collimation to beam extraction and in-beam fixed target experiments. Impact of Power Supply Ripple on the Beam Performance of the Large Hadron Collider and the High-Luminosity LHC / Kostoglou, Sofia (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Papaphilippou, Yannis (CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN) Harmonics of the mains frequency (50 Hz) have been systematically observed in the form of dipolar excitations in the transverse beam spectrum of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) since the beginning of its operation. The power supply ripple, consisting of both fundamental and higher frequency components, is proven not to be the result of an artifact of the instrumentation systems with which they are observed. Progress on Action Phase Jump for LHC Local Optics Correction / Cardona, Javier F (Colombia, U. Natl.) ; García Morales, Hector (CERN) ; Hofer, Michael (CERN) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Persson, Tobias (CERN) ; Rodriguez Garcia, Yohany (Colombia, U. Natl. ; Antonio Narino U.) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN) The correction of the local optics at the Interaction Regions of the LHC is crucial to ensure a good performance of the machine. This is even more important for the future LHC upgrade, HL-LHC, where the optics is more sensitive to magnetic errors. Controlling Landau Damping via Feed-Down From High-Order Correctors in the LHC and HL-LHC / Dilly, Joschua (CERN ; Humboldt U., Berlin) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN) Amplitude detuning measurements in the LHC have shown that a significant amount of detuning is generated in Beam 1 via feed-down from decapole and dodecapole field errors in the triplets of the experiment insertion regions, while in Beam 2 this detuning is negligible. In this study, we investigate the cause of this behavior and we attempt to find corrections that use the feed-down from the nonlinear correctors in the insertion region for amplitude detuning.. 2022 - 4 p. - Published in : JACoW IPAC 2022 (2022) 1995-1998 Fulltext: PDF; In : 13th International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC 2022), Bangkok, Thailand, 12 - 17 Jun 2022, pp.1995-1998

A Response Matrix Approach to Skew-Sextupole Correction in the LHC at Injection / Waagaard, Elias (CERN ; Uppsala U. (main)) ; Maclean, Ewen (CERN) To date, no dedicated attempt has been made to correct the skew-sextupole (𝑎3 ) 3𝑄𝑦 resonance in the LHC at injection. This topic has recently gained interest, following investigation of the emittance growth during the LHC energy ramp due to third-order islands. Thermohydraulic simulation of quenches and quench recovery for the HL-LHC IT String test bench at CERN / Rolando, G (CERN) ; Wanninger, A (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN) In the framework of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, a new test system - the Inner Triplet (IT) magnets String - for the characterization and validation of the collective behaviour of a 60 m long string of magnets is being built in the SM18 cryogenic test facility at CERN. Among the main objectives of the IT String is the assessment of the magnet performance during the resistive transition from the superconducting to the normal state (quench) when energies up to 39.1 MJ are released into the magnet cold mass and into the helium. Operational Scenario of First High Luminosity LHC Run / Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN) ; Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Brüning, Oliver (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Dilly, Joschua (CERN) et al. A new scenario for the first operational run of the HL-LHC era (Run 4) has been recently developed to accommodate a period of performance ramp-up to achieve an annual integrated luminosity close to the nominal HL-LHC design. The operational scenario in terms of beam parameters and machine settings, as well as the different phases, are described here along with the impact of potential delays on key hardware components.. 2022 - 4 p. - Published in : JACoW IPAC 2022 (2022) 1846-1849 Fulltext: PDF; In : 13th International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC 2022), Bangkok, Thailand, 12 - 17 Jun 2022, pp.1846-1849

Corrections of Systematic Normal Decapole Field Errors in the HL-LHC Separation/Recombination Dipoles / Dilly, Joschua (CERN ; Humboldt U., Berlin (main)) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Tomás García, Rogelio (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN) Magnetic measurements revealed that the new normal decapole ($b_5$) errors of the recombination dipoles (D2) for the HL-LHC could have a systematic component of up to 11 units. Based on previous studies, it was predicted that the current corrections would not be able to compensate this, thereby leading to a degradation of the dynamic aperture.
