Benchmark evaluation of a single frequency continuous wave OPO seeded pulsed dye amplifier for high-resolution laser spectroscopy / Urquiza-González, M (Unlisted, DE) ; Au, M (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Bernerd, C (Leuven U.) ; Bissell, M (Manchester U.) ; van den Borne, B (Leuven U.) ; Chrysalidis, K (CERN) ; Cocolios, T E (Leuven U.) ; Fedosseev, V N (CERN) ; Flanagan, K T (Manchester U.) ; Garcia Ruiz, R G (MIT) et al.
The study of the atomic spectrum via resonant laser excitation provides access to underlying effects caused by the nuclear structure, which is of special interest in short-lived radioisotopes produced at Isotope Separator On-Line (ISOL) facilities. Current implementations of resonant laser ionization techniques often limit the extraction of the nuclear observables due to the low spectral resolution of the pulsed laser systems deployed. [...]

Design of a compact superconducting recoil separator for HIE-ISOLDE / Resta-López, J (Valencia U.) ; Foussat, A (CERN) ; Kirby, G (CERN) ; Rodin, V (CERN) ; Kirby, O (PSI, Villigen) ; Martel, I (Huelva U.) ; Welsch, C P (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Liverpool U.)
The High Intensity and Energy ISOLDE facility (HIE-ISOLDE) at CERN has unprecedentedly expanded the research capabilities to investigate the structure of the atomic nucleus and the nuclear interaction. In this context, to meet the high-resolution mass spectroscopy required by the HIE-ISOLDE physics program, an innovative spectrometer is currently being designed, the ISOLDE Superconducting Recoil Separator (ISRS). Nuclear physics in the N≈126 region relevant for the $r$ process / Podolyák, Zsolt (CERN ; Surrey U.)
Understanding how the heavy chemical elements are made in the astrophysical $r$-process requires information on both the properties of the nuclei involved and that of the environment. The availability of experimental information on the neutron-rich N∼126 nuclei is discussed, with emphasis on phenomena specifically relevant to this region: the large role of first-forbidden $\beta$ decays, and that of the $\Delta n = 0$ selection rule in Gamow-Teller decays. Beta decay along the N=Z line and its relevance in rp-process and X-Ray bursts / IS570 Collaboration
Nucleosynthesis in Type I X-ray bursts (XRB) proceeds eventually through the rp-process near the proton drip-line. Several N=Z nuclei act as waiting points in the reaction network chain. [...]

A setup for vacuum-ultraviolet spectroscopy of the $^{229}$Th low-energy isomer / Kraemer, Sandro (KU Leuven ; LMU, Garching) ; Chhetri, Premaditya (KU Leuven) ; Bara, Silvia (KU Leuven) ; Claessens, Arno (KU Leuven) ; De Witte, Hilde (KU Leuven) ; Elskens, Yens (KU Leuven) ; Ferrer, Rafael (KU Leuven) ; Kudryavtsev, Yuri (KU Leuven) ; Sels, Simon (KU Leuven) ; Van Den Bergh, Paul (KU Leuven) et al.
The ground-state transition of the low-energy isomer in $^{229}$Th has been proposed as the basis for the development of a novel optical clock as a tool for fundamental-physics studies. Vacuum-ultraviolet studies of the 𝛽-decay of 229Ac recently enabled to measure the de-excitation energy of the isomer with a sevenfold improvement in precision compared to previous results by directly observing photons from the isomer’s radiative decay. At the CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion beam facility, thick targets are irradiated using a beam of 1.4-GeV protons. One of ISOLDE’s key features is the large choice of ion source types and target materials available, enabling us to select the ideal combination for optimal intensity and purity of the isotopes requested by ISOLDE users.
