Denoising Convolutional Networks to Accelerate Detector Simulation / Banerjee, Sunanda (Fermilab) ; Cruz Rodriguez, B (Puerto Rico U., Mayaguez) ; Franklin, Lena (Maryland U.) ; Guerrero De La Cruz, H (Puerto Rico U., Mayaguez) ; Leininger, T (Lafayette Coll.) ; Norberg, S (Puerto Rico U., Mayaguez) ; Pedro, K (Fermilab) ; Rosado Trinidad, A (Puerto Rico U., Mayaguez) ; Ye, Y (Chicago U.) /CMS Collaboration
The high accuracy of detector simulation is crucial for modern particle physics experiments. However, this accuracy comes with a high computational cost, which will be exacerbated by the large datasets and complex detector upgrades associated with next-generation facilities such as the High Luminosity LHC. Reliably measuring the transverse beam profile in the LHC injector chain is essential for the operation of the CERN accelerator complex. This report aims to assess the reliability, stability, and reproducibility of a new generation of beam wire scanners developed at CERN in the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU). [...]

Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors as Beam-Induced Heating Monitor for the Central Beam Pipe of CMS / Fienga, Francesco (U. Naples (main) ; CERN) ; Beni, Noemi (CERN ; Debrecen, Inst. Nucl. Res.) ; Breglio, Giovanni (U. Naples (main) ; CERN) ; Buontempo, Salvatore (INFN, Naples ; CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Giordano, Francesco (CERN) ; Irace, Andrea (U. The passage of a high-intensity particle beam inside accelerator components generates heating, potentially leading to degradation of the accelerator performance or damage to the component itself. It is therefore essential to monitor such beam-induced heating in accelerators. [...]

Recent LHC SR Interferometer Simulations and Experimental Results / Butti, Daniele (CERN ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Trad, Georges (CERN)
At the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), among the different systems exploiting Synchrotron Radiation (SR) for beam diagnostics, interferometry is under study as a non-invasive technique for measuring absolute beam transverse sizes. Extensive numerical simulations, recently completed for characterising the spatial coherence of the LHC SR source, facilitated the optimisation of the LHC interferometer design and the existing prototype system tested in the past has been refurbished to include the new simulation findings. The Diamond Beam Loss Monitoring System at CERN LHC and SPS / Calvo Giraldo, Eva (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Gonzalez Berges, Manuel (CERN) ; Kral, Jiri (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Martínez Samblas, Javier (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) ; Salvachúa, Belen (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) accelerators are equipped with 17 pCVD diamond based Beam Loss detectors at strategical locations where their nanosecond resolution can provide insights into the loss mechanisms and complement the information of the standard ionization chamber type detectors. They are used at the injection and extraction lines of the LHC and SPS, to analyse the injection or extraction efficiency, and to verify the timing alignment of other elements like kicker magnets. The Beam Loss Monitoring System after LHC Long Shutdown 2 at CERN / Saccani, Mathieu (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Viganò, William (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN)
Most of the LHC systems at CERN were updated during the Long Shutdown 2, from December 2018 to July 2022, to prepare the accelerator for High-Luminosity. The Beam Loss Monitoring system is a key part of the LHC’s instrumentation for machine protection and beam optimisation by producing continuous and reliable measurements of beam losses along the accelerator. An LHC Protection System Based on Fast Beam Intensity Drops / Gąsior, Marek (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is protected against potentially dangerous beam losses by a distributed system based on some four thousand beam loss monitors. To provide an additional level of safety, the LHC has been equipped with a system to detect fast beam intensity drops and trigger a beam dump for potentially dangerous rates. [...]

LHC Schottky Spectrum from Macro-Particle Simulations / Lannoy, Christophe (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Alves, Diogo (CERN) ; Łasocha, Kacper (Jagiellonian U.) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
We introduce a method for building Schottky spectra from macro-particle simulations performed with the PyHEADTAIL code, applied to LHC beam conditions. In this case, the use of a standard Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm to recover the spectral content of the beam becomes computationally intractable memory-wise, because of the relatively short bunch length compared to the large revolution period.
